Rivacre Country park, near Ellesmere port
The
Rivacre park is well suited to dog walkers and is an area with a remarkable
history. It used to form part of the royal park of the Wirral, but in
the 20th Century it was more famous for being home to an open air swimming
pool.
The maintenance of this pool became too expensive and in the 1970's the pool was filled in and the area was turned into a woodland park. It offers a range of walks - from Wide, open, tarmaced paths through to woodland areas and a small stream runs through the park.
It is a fairly gentle walk but you and you dog could still spend a couple of
hours exploring the park and its scenery. the site is over 400 acres
in total meaning that there is lots to look at.
Good points:
Good parking areas (for 15-20 cars) and the location of the site (not far of the M53) make it easy to access.
The park has plenty of Poo bins meaning that it is clear of dog mess! The river, offering a chance to paddle, is always popular with the dogs especially on the hot days. Like many of the dog walks, only people with dogs tend to go to this area meaning that you will meet many friendly and likeminded people.
The park also has a rangers office located inside of it - but please note that the gates are shut at 17:00
Bad Points:
The
Park has a road which cuts through the middle of it and can at times become
quite busy. This is not ideal and please watch out for you dogs when
you approach the road. There are no amenities, but plenty of picnic
benches so be sure to take a packed lunch with you.
The river has had some fly tipping in parks and coud do with a clean up.
Overall
– A range of terrain in a safe enclosed area make this a hit - if it wasn't
for the road cutting through the park then this would be a dog walkers
heaven.
The park is well maintained and overall very clean.
