A GOOD WEEK
Georgie has been in high spirits lately and is really making the most of the life. She has been enjoying 2 walks a day at the local dog park where she loves to meet all of her friends. Her favourite part of the walk is when she is allowed to play with her toys. Georgie is obsessed with toys and will play with them 24 hours a day and that is not an exaggeration. She borders on having an obsessive compulsive disorder with toys.
Her favourite toy is a ball – she loves to catch it and then throw it back to you so you can throw it again for her. She tosses the ball out of her mouth and aims it so lands by your feet – she is very clever. She tries to play this game with everyone she meets. Everyone thinks it is really funny and they keep throwing the ball for her until they realise she has no intention of giving up and would play this game all day.
At home we have to hide her toys as she continues the game in the house until she is falling asleep on her feet. Georgie is not one to give up so she brings you her blankets in an attempt to make you play tug of war with her. If that fails instead of eating her pieces of rawhide she throws them to you like her ball hoping you will throw it back so she can catch it and then throw it back to you again.
Everyone says they have never met a dog so obsessed with playing games like Georgie. She even plays these games when she is in the hospital. Most dogs are scared of the hospital and refuse to go in but Georgie knows they keep toys in the cupboard (which she can open by herself) so she just sees it as another chance to play a game – typical Georgie.
It is really fun watching Georgie being so happy and full of life but as the weather gets colder and wetter we can see her arthritis getting worse and she is struggling to get up and down late at night as she ceases up. Although it will be hard for us to watch her go through the hip operation and the long recovery process we hope that is will give her an even better quality of life.
We are waiting for a phone call from the hospital for the expected date for her first hip replacement so check here for more updates next week.
