Georgie Update 7th February 2008
Georgie is still doing really well. She is really enjoying life and has a permanent smile on her face and a constant wagging tail. We took all of the dogs to a new walk on Sunday morning (Dukes Drive - see the dog walk pages) as they all love being somewhere new so they can go exploring. Georgie was particularly excited and kept running off to find sticks and then would come bounding back with sticks that were bigger than her. She refuses to give up and will spend ages trying to drag the biggest tree branch she can find along with her. She brings it to you to tease you with it and then runs off again.
It is fun watching Georgie being so happy on her walks but she always seems stiff in the evening after a long walk which makes us a bit sad. We have to watch Georgie’s weight as if we don’t exercise her enough she puts weight on which puts extra strain on her poorly hips. However, if we over exercise her then she seems to be in pain so it is balancing act to get it right.
She is still having her acupuncture and we have seen a definite improvement in her demeanour and pain levels. Before she started the sessions Georgie didn’t really like being stroked on her back and it was impossible to try to dry her after a walk as she wouldn’t let you touch her back legs. Now she loves being stoked and we can dry her legs off without her growling or moving away (as long as the other dogs aren’t around).
The electric acupuncture, where the needles are stimulated by a small electric current, has been a fantatic benefit. Georgies falls asleep on her feet (snoring!) whilst the muscles on her back are twitching due to the electric pulses. Following these sessions Georgie is really subdued - this last for 4-5 hours then she becomes quite manic and full of energy.
The mix of changing medication and starting the acupuncture have helped Georgie brilliantly. And the early spring has helped too. she is a very different dog!
Georgie is a much more cuddly dog now and we are very grateful for all the help that Liverpool Small Animal Hospital has given us and Georgie.
