Q. What qualifications does Pet Concepts have to provide this service?

A. We are pet lovers ourselves who have always had difficulty in what to do with our various cats, dogs, chickens, birds and fish when we go away. We set this business up to provide a high level of care to like minded pet owners. Our Animal Ambulance & Pet Taxi is Defra accredited meaning that it is properly fitted out to ensure the safety of your pet whilst in transport. We have attended dog training classes so we can provide training to your dog. All of our dog walkers and host families are carefully selected by us, have references and are police checked for your peace of mind.

Q. Do I have to provide anything for my dog when they stay with a host family?

A. Yes – you will need to provide enough food and treats for the dogs as changing food can upset a dog’s stomach. You should also provide their feeding and water bowls, fresh bedding and plenty of toys and their favourite treats to ensure they feel at home.

Q. Can I meet the Host Family before I leave my dog with them?

A. Yes. To ensure that both parties are completely happy we always encourage the owners to meet the family before the booking commences.

Q. Will I be able to book direct through the carer for future visits?

A. No – you will have to book through Pet Concepts. We will always try to place your dog with the same family but at busy periods this may not always be possible. Don’t worry though, as all of our families are carefully selected by us to ensure that your pet will always have the best care. If you have a specific family you wish to use booking early is recommended.

Q. How will I know if my dog is ill or injured while I am away?

A. All of our families have a lot of experience in caring for animals but if anything should happen to your pet we will always try to contact you on the numbers provided, including your emergency contact which should be a friend or relative. We will contact your vet for advice and if necessary we will take them to the vet for treatment. We will not be liable for any fees incurred.

Q. Can I contact the host family while I am away to check how my pet is?

A. We are in constant contact with the Host Family and will make a visit to them to check everything is ok. You can contact Pet Concepts by phone, text or email and we will give you updates on your pet. If you have access to the internet we can even email you a picture of your pet so you can see how they are doing for yourself.

Q. What if the Host Family has a problem with my dog and can’t care for it?

A. We will visit the family to find out what the problems are and what we can do to help. If they still can’t cope your pet will be placed with another host family. If there aren’t any available then your pet will come to Pet Concepts owner's home where as dog trainers we are more able to assist with any problems that your pet may be having. To prevent this from happening it is important to complete the dog questionnaire we provide you as accurately as possible so we are aware of any potential problems from the outset.

Q. Does my dog need to be vaccinated?

A. Yes – we need to see a certificate of vaccination from your vets. Your dog should also have been recently wormed and flea treated.

Q. What happens if I am delayed and unable to collect my dog on the expected date?

A. There shouldn’t be any problems but please provide us with as much notice as possible. The dog should be able to stay with the Host Family until your return. However, if this is not possible due to other commitments then we will place your dog with another family until your return. Normal daily rates will apply.

Q. Do I need to give a deposit when booking my dog to stay with a host family?

A. Yes – A 50% deposit is required to secure the booking. We can refund 75% of this deposit providing you give 14 days notice of cancellation. Refunds are not available if less than 14 days notice is provided.

Q. What will you do when you come to feed my cat or furry friends?

A. We will feed your pet to your requirements and clean their feeding bowls and litter trays. Hutches and cages can be cleaned once a week if cleaning equipment and fresh bedding is provided for us. We can also pick up your post, open and close your curtains, turn lights on and off to prevent the house looking empty. We will also water your house plants if they are placed together by the kitchen sink.

Q. What if you loose my keys?

A. We are fully insured and have key cover so in the unlikely event that we lose your keys our insurance will pay to have your locks changed. Your keys are coded and do not have any of your address details on so they cannot be traced to your house.

Q. How many dogs do you take on a walk?

A. We are insured to take up to 6 dogs on a walk but we only walk 4 dogs at a time with 1 walker. This is to ensure that we can keep proper control of the dogs. We will 6 dogs if there are 2 walkers. We can walk your dog on it's own if it is not good with others dogs.
