Georgie Update 28th February 2008

Ups and downs in the past week for Georgie. She is still responding incredibly well to the acupuncture - the trance like state which the needles put her into has to really be seen to be believed.

And this is gradually increasing her movement - she is exercising more (the light nights help with this) of course and the painkillers appear to have helped her overcome many of her problems.

The big difference for me is that where once I would come downstairs in the dark early mornings and Georgie would look sad in her bed (tail wagging) and unable to greet me, now she is at the dog gate as soon as I enter the room - Keen to greet me and to say hello.

The key issues with Georgie now are in addressing her behaviour. She is still anxious around other dogs for fear that they will bang into her, and she shows this with the "hairdryer" growl (All noise and no bite) to other dogs. But she needs to learn now that other dogs don't mean her harm.

The other issue is that of course the acupuncture and medicinal treatments are only temporary. The only long term solution for Georgie is total hip replacement and this is not something which any of us are looking forward to - the operation or the recovery.

But she is still young, at 3 and a half years old, and we hope that we can maybe get her through until at least 5 years old before she has to be operated on again.

It would be a shame to have such a young dog have to spend so much time in recovery (again)
